The most effective method comes from yoga, a very simple pranayam that cools your whole body from within, more effective than any air conditioner. Once I was in a large group, in a small room, in the worst of summer. The electricity failed leaving us boiling and miserable. We all did the breathing exercises given below and very soon everyone was comfortable enough to go back to work.
“At first I thought of leaving,” said Sudha, a homemaker. “But after just a few minutes of the breathing I was so comfortable I did not feel the heat and actually forgot all about it.” Breath in through the mouth and out through the nose.
To breathe in open the lips as wide as you can, exposing the teeth and gums. Touch the teeth together. As you breath in air will go through your teeth, instantly cooled by your saliva. Then close your mouth and breathe out through the nose. If you are doing it right you will immediately feel the coolness go right down your body. It also strengthens weak teeth and gums.
